Electrochemical Method for LiFeAs SuperconductorElectrochemical method for LiFeAs superconductor preparation suitable for large scale production. The NeedLiFeAs compounds, compared to FeAs materials, do not demonstrate spin-density wave behavior and exhibit superconductivity at ambient pressures without chemical doping. However, the current electrochemical methods to prepare pnictide LiFeAs superconductors require a solid-state reaction at high temperatures (740 °-1050 °C) for long times (24-60 h), which is not suitable for large scale applications. The TechnologyResearchers at The Ohio State University, led by Dr. Milan Majoros, have developed a novel electrochemical preparation method to produce pnictide LiFeAs superconductors. During electrolysis, Li ions in the electrolyte insert into the FeAs lattice to form LiFeAs on the surface of the FeAs electrode. The method developed offers distinct advantages over the existing electrochemical methods and traditional high temperature solid-state reaction methods.
